Rivers possess a unique and captivating aura that seems to transcend their surroundings. The tranquil and unyielding flow of water, indifferent to the bustling city life, creates a serene and pleasant atmosphere. I’ve observed this phenomenon in various cities, including New York City’s East and Hudson Rivers, London’s River Thames, Newcastle’s River Tyne, Cologne’s River Rhine, Hamburg, and Dresden. In each instance, the presence of a river enhances the city’s beauty.
The River Rhine flows through Duisburg, marking the western boundary of the densely urbanized Ruhr area. On its eastern bank, remnants of old but still active industry coexist with expansive green riverbanks and recreational areas. Several bridges span the river, adding to its ambiance. Here, people spend their afternoons, evenings, and weekends engaging in leisurely activities such as picnics, enjoying drinks in beer gardens, running, or simply strolling amidst the harmonious blend of greenery and industry. On the western shore, urbanization gives way to the rural Lower Rhine region.
This post features a collection of images taken during two visits to this location. Most of the images capture the essence and mood of the region, while others showcase intriguing details. The photographs are presented without additional information, except for the title and location. There are no explanations or conversations; instead, there’s a deliberate silence that invites you to engage in silent conversations with the images. What story do they tell? Which emotions do they evoke? Do they hold personal significance for you? Feel free to ask each photo and listen to its responses. They undoubtedly possess captivating stories to share.
